PLEASE COME BACK, IDA LUPINO

Paul D Brazill shared this video on Facebook today and I felt it was worth posting here. It’s the one and only Ida Lupino singing One For My Baby in the great film noir Road House (1948) with Richard Widmark and Cornel Wilde. I believe she’s really singing in this scene, as opposed to lip-synching, and her delivery is down-and-dirty noir. Her vocal overlays a great piano track, played with a pulse. This is very unusual, because this song is almost always played in a draggy-blues style. Put it all together and you have lightning in a bottle. A once-in-a-lifetime performance caught on film.
