Evan--today it's more of a foreign country. If you want to go shopping along Calle Ocho, you'd better be able to speak Spanish. Miami has been completely transformed into the capital of Latin America, and is probably better off for it. The Cubans are on top, with several Miami mayors in recent years having actually been born in Cuba. Not far off Calle Ocho are neighborhoods like Little Managua, Little Haiti, and other similar areas. The prescient ambitions on display in STREET 8 (wanting power in Miami more than wanting to oust Fidel Castro) have truly come to pass.

How does the street today compare with the one in the book? More or less of a foreign country?
